To Vote Or Not To Vote Thats My Question
I have never voted, up until a few years ago I refused to watch the news. My theory was if I can’t look out my window and see it I don’t want to know about it, my son nagged me endlessly about it and gave me constant crap. “Did you see the news” he’d ask, “oh thats right you don’t watch the news.” Then he would proceed to tell me all about whatever “important” event was happening that I had missed. So needless to say I gave in and I now watch the news every morning. Well I am kind of the same way about politics and voting, my son says ” you should vote, whoever is in office effects your life.” and I always come back with “until they are standing in my yard affecting my daily life I really could care less.” But I am suddenly feeling more interested this year, I can’t quite put my finger on what it is that has changed but I have even found myself watching some videos of the candidates. Maybe its the fact that there is a woman running, which is weird because I never really liked Hillary when she was first lady but I find myself strangely drawn to whats happening with her and feel discouraged that she isn’t starting out so well.
What would get me to vote right away really has nothing to do with race or gender though, but if someone could promise to stop all our kids from being killed. I mean every day I turn on the news and another young soldier has died “fighting for our country” I’m sorry, I have the utmost respect for the armed forces but I think it’s a lot of crap fed to them by our government, let’s tell the truth why don’t we? They are over there fighting for oil. And who has the most to gain from all those soldiers dying and fighting? Well the current President in my opinion has a little to much to gain from this whole situation. Ok so maybe I have made some people mad but thats the thing about politics, any time they get discussed in an honest open forum it just makes people argue.
Maybe I would be better off finding some left wing liberal candidate to vote for, because I believe we can achieve peace, and I believe we can slow down global warming and preserve the earth a little longer if we all try, I guess I also believe that voting for the next president will not make these things happen, that the only people who can change things are not in politics but are you and me, just ordinary folks, we as a whole can make changes and it doesn’t really matter who we vote for. Government is what it is just different people doing slightly different versions of the same thing, nothing dramatic ever really changes no matter who is in office.
