Things Are Different In The South
It’s kind of ironic that I decided to do this post because my daughter just happens to be going on her class field trip to the Science Museum of Minnesota in a couple days and I decide to do a post about a museum. Not a museum around here though, and regretfully not one I will get to visit any time soon, I may have spent several years as a child in Texas but I did not get to visit the Stark Museum of Art. It looks like an amazing place.
The Stark Museum of Art in Orange, Texas prides themselves on their art from the west, paintings, sculpture, and prints from the nineteenth and twentieth century that show the diverse wildlife and stunning land of the area. The museum is known to house one of the most significant collections of American Western art.
One of the things that I wish I could be there for right now is the current exhibition, its entitled Celebrate Shangri La, and it is in honor of the recent opening of the Shangri La Botanical gardens also in Orange, Texas. The exhibition features artistic representations of the flowers, plants and wildlife native to the surrounding area and the botanical gardens. This special exhibition also has an interactive children’s area where they can play matching games and a guessing game based on the exhibition where they can win a prize.
One of the founders of the museum and his wife have also started the Stark Foundation its mission is to improve the quality of life in southeast Texas, by encouraging the arts, education, health, and human services. This is a non-profit organization that helps assist education through grants, and a scholarship program.
So if you are lucky enough to be in the area stop in and take a look, even the website is amazing so I imagine the actual museum is stunning!
