Well maybe it’s not quite that bad yet, but there has been a lot of talk about web hosting in my house lately. My son and resident computer guru Markus has decided to move us from one web host to another, the problem? He is very picky, we had Media Temple for years but he finally just got fed up with being down, so he has started to research a new host. He found one then decided they wouldn’t work then settled on another, now he doesn’t seem thrilled with them either, I guess it remains to be seen who we will end up with.
I would like to tell him to check out the articles section on webhostingrating.com they have so much useful information, the articles range from very beginner topics like “What Is A Web Host” to “3 Ways to Tell if a Cheap Web Hosting Service is Bad” I really learned a ton of useful things like did you know there are three quick tests to finding a good cheap web host? Simple things that you can do before purchasing, and they also have web hosting tutorials that will help you with specific topics. So before you go nuts and strangle your IT guy maybe you should do what I did and read some of the informative articles on webhostingrating.com at least that way you will know what they are attempting to find or maybe even give a suggestion of your own.
If you are just looking for hosting with out DNS, meaning you don’t care if you have control over your DNS 1and1 is good. DNS control is better if you use GoDaddy, and just point to 1and1 servers for hosting.
My brother is starting a company called SkylerMedia. It is more for design then hosting, but he does do hosting as well. a.pipkin [at] skylermedia /dot\ com. His site is not yet ready as he is working on other sites right now. But he might be willing just to host.
