The Things I Used To Do
My mother has a pig collection, none are alive just fake pigs and although I did a lot of drawing and wood burning and carving over the years my mother is one of the only people to still have some work of mine, most every thing else has been sold at art shows or fairs over time I have only a few things left. The pigs above I drew when I was very young, probably in my teens.
One year in my twenties I was pretty strapped for cash at the holidays so I decided to paint rugs for some family members, (why rugs?) I did one for each my dad and brother with huge largemouth Bass and there name and knowing my mother really liked the painting American Gothic I decided to make it on a rug with tubes of fabric paint and of course keep with the piggy theme. My mother has been a huge inspiration to me, I even carved her a pig ashtray out of alabaster that I will have to take a picture of next time I’m there.
I have decided that I miss doing my art even if I am to busy I don’t want to wake up dead some day and realize I wasted an amazing talent by never using it or failing to enjoy it. So the sketch above is what I have been fiddling with lately, just a few minutes here and there but it makes me happy again.
