What A Dirty Hole

I remember when going to the Zoo as a child was a fun experience, here in Minnesota we have two main Zoo’s, the closest one is free and has a large park, a beautiful conservatory, and now a small amusement park area attached, the other one is another 40 minutes south and quite expensive just to park and then admission. (with gas prices we went to the closer, free Zoo)

What a big ass mistake that was. Okay, so its not as bad as say the old Los Angeles Zoo (yes I’ve been) but I just went to this Zoo 3 years ago and it had twice the animals and before that when my son was young it was a helluva lot cleaner. It’s just gross and it smells foul and it was so hot and crowded, and the constant smell of rotting fish kept wafting through the air, oh and the water! I took a drink from a drinking fountain ( I know what the hell was I thinking??) it was like liquefied garbage….no…..it was like they filtered the water through garbage before it got to the fountain….oh yeah it was that bad.

The thing that really sucked was we have certain trips that we like to go on during the summer, my little princess wanted to go to a zoo this summer and I was hoping this would take care of it, no such luck, as we were leaving she said “Mom in a couple weeks can we go to the real zoo? It’s so much nicer than this one.”

That is so sad that just 3 years ago it was a nice zoo. Our state zoo (NC) is struggling also with facilities that need updating and fewer animals.

That drinking fountains sounds like it should be the first thing worked on. That is the kind of thing that makes families stay away.
